Nashville may be known for its hot chicken and biscuits, but we aren’t too shabby when it comes to the dessert game. We’ve come up with a comprehensive list of Nashville’s local bakeries – local, not statewide chains – that truly encompass the experience of a southern sweet shop with a twist of Music City charm. Did your favorite make the list…?
Editor’s Note: Sadly, The Sweet Stash and Dulce Desserts have both closed their doors since this article was published. Add The Puffy Muffin to your bucket list instead!
Located in a historic home in Germantown, the Cupcake Collection has a large variety of sweet treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. The team treats every customer like family, and their expansive list of seasonal flavors will keep you coming back year after year. (1213 6th Ave N)
Ivy Cake is best known for its ties to A-list celebrities in Nashville, with a reputation solidified by Carrie Underwood's nuptials and multiple high-end events throughout the city. They just opened their newest location in Brentwood (they are also located in downtown Franklin) by popular breakfast spot The Perch, so there's no need to drive too far for your favorite mini cakes. PS: This is a great spot if you're looking for wedding desserts, too! (Various Locations)
This quirky little East Nashville shop serves all sorts of sugary sweets, from macaroons to cake pops. Popular amongst young, engaged folks, we'd recommend Nashville Sweets for any of your special event needs. The owners truly operate on a youthful, small town plane, and it's truly a breath of fresh air. (803 Woodland Street)
This Green Hills cupcakery has been around for a while - and for good reason. The staff is always helpful and friendly, welcoming you in like you're one of the family, and who doesn't want to indulge amongst friends? Located near the wildly popular Green Hills Mall AND Trader Joe's (you know you basically live there), it's easy to stop by on a lazy Saturday or your way home from work. (2014 Glen Echo Road)
Freshly baked desserts are the name of the game at The Sweet Stash, and they do their work well. Lauded for their, "dense, perfectly sweet" cupcakes, this is your spot if you'd rather leave the ultra-sweet on the side. Everything is high quality and beautifully presented as well, great for any of your personal events. (900 Rosa L Parks Blvd)
Dulce Desserts is best if you're looking for made-to-order event desserts, though they do offer a few over the counter eats. All cupcakes and regular cakes (they're phenomenal for weddings!) are baked from scratch, resulting in perfectly moist treats. You'll be raving about Dulce Desserts for awhile, folks. Once you taste one of their cupcakes, you'll never go back to that Betty Crocker box. (717 Craighead Street)
Sweet Sixteenth is truly one of the most amazing bakery experiences in Nashville. Located in east Nashville, this tiny neighborhood bakery has truly made its way into the hearts of locals and visitors alike. Their pastries run the gamut, from cookies to cakes to dense brownies, and you can even pitch up to enjoy one of their traditional breakfast sandwiches. This is an old school bakery with a history that runs deep in the city, and it doesn't get better than that. (311 N 16th Street)
