Holiday festivals provide ample opportunity for neighbors to hobnob with one another over a steaming cup of hot cocoa, and they make for free ways to spend time in the greater community. A gathering place where food and fun and holiday spirit is held all around?! Well, you’re bound to find that right here in the heart of the American south. The Annual Dickens of a Christmas Festival is held every year in Franklin, Tennessee, which is just a short drive outside of Nashville. If you’re a first time visitor, then you may find yourself unwilling to leave. It’s a truly beautiful experience!
The experience is hosted by the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County, and has the honor of being Middle Tennessee's largest outdoor Christmas festival.
The festival itself resurrects the time of Charles Dickens, and the entire experience recreates the Victorian atmosphere of long ago. You'll find over 200 musicians, characters, and dancers filling the streets with fun, and even some who hail from Dicken's famed tales of wonder and woe.
Perhaps you'll run into Jacob Marley or Oliver Twist, maybe even Tiny Tim Cratchit or Father and Mother Christmas. The entire experience is free and open to the public, which means folks of all ages are welcome.
Come for the live music and the arts and crafts vendors that line the street, come dressed up or dressed casually. There's no right or wrong way to experience the time of Dicken's in the heart of Tennessee.
Make sure you stop by one of the many food and drink vendors while you wander. There's nothing like a steaming cup of hot cocoa while you go holiday shopping for the ones you love.
Will you be joining this year? You can visit for yourself on Main Street in Franklin, Tennessee, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the weekend of December 14th. Happy holiday celebrating, Middle Tennessee!
