My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
Have you ever been kicked by a cow? I haven’t, but I remember my grandfather always warning us about standing behind cows. You see, he owned a dairy farm, and the implication was that he had been on the receiving end of many a hoof. Regardless of the cautionary tale, it is extremely nostalgic for me to visit a farm, and in Philadelphia, Tennessee, Sweetwater Dairy Farm, is an undeniably charming day trip destination. You can tour, eat, and shop all in this quintessential dairy farm in Tennessee.
In 1917, a barn was erected on the plot of land known Sweetwater Valley Farm, setting the stage for a dairy farm. Much has changed in the 100 years since, and the transformation started when new owners took over the farm in 1992. Adding new practices only made the farm experience even better, but the proprietors took great care to maintain the beauty, charm, and history of the property.
One of the best ways to visit the farm is to take a tour. This farm is the first in Tennessee to implement robots for milking the cows. This high-tech facility uses eight robots to milk 500 cows per day, and you get to learn all about the process by touring the farm.
Where our food comes from is an interesting journey that we might not think about very often. This facility uses fresh milk to create many dairy products that you can see being made from start to finish.
After a tour, partake in the products yourself by visiting the cafe! The menu highlights various kinds of cheese for classic grilled cheese sandwiches, like the fan-favorite Buttermilk & BBQ. Mmm!
Pair your cheesy 'wich with a delicious milkshake. They offer standard flavors on the menu like chocolate, cookies & cream, and strawberry, but for a special treat check out their seasonal flavors throughout the year. You never know what kind of new fusion you might find at the cafe!
There is something so simply nostalgic about visiting farms in Tennessee. The sounds, smells, and sights, bring me back to my childhood. These outings are always memorable and meaningful, and I am willing to bet that a trip to Sweetwater Valley Farms will have you feeling the same way.
For tours of the facility you will need to book online so for tickets and any other information please visit the Sweetwater Valley Farm website. And you just love cows or know someone who does, check out this adorable cow terrarium!
