My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
Here at OnlyInYourState, we love nothing more than discovering Mother Nature’s many hidden gems, as with today’s feature destination. In East Tennessee, there is a pretty little waterfall is sure to blow you away. There are lots of waterfalls all over our state and we never say no when it comes time for a little bit more waterfall chasing! Today’s adventure is a short and sweet hike to Millstone Creek Falls in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Millstone Creek Falls might not necessarily show up on GPS, so get ready to do a bit of sleuthing.
While traveling on Arnold Road, a back road in Jonesborough, you will be following a lovely river leading you toward Erwin. The trail is unmarked and there is a pull-off big enough for a car, maybe two, but that is the only indication that you have found it. You can easily drive by and not even know the treasure just waiting for you within a five-minute walk in the woods. You will notice just a slightly worn path but you will hear the waterfall, follow the path and then sound and you will be there before you know it.
The trail is only about 150 yards long, so it is truly "short and sweet." Near the road, the ground looks like it had given way and you will have a small place to walk by. This is another clue that you have found the right place because you can see that section from the road.
Standing at the bottom of the falls you can just marvel at the sheer drop and the beautiful rock formations surrounding the cliff. The winter makes this trail particularly pretty but any time of the year this waterfall is sure to impress.
You will notice a wooden platform on the side of the rock wall with a picnic bench overlooking the waterfall that's because the waterfall is on private property.
The owners have graciously allowed guests to hike in to see the falls, but ask that people be respectful and not litter. We always want to encourage people to be respectful on any trail so many people can enjoy it for years to come.
Sitting by the base of the falls and just listening to the peaceful sound of the water falling on the rocks below is such a soothing sound. You might find yourself sitting there and relaxing for quite some time as the peaceful sound carries you away.
Millstone Creek Falls is certainly a local secret but one worth exploring. With a short and sweet hike that leads to a massive payoff, this is one must-see waterfall in Tennessee! Millstone Creek Falls is a gorgeous waterfall that we highly recommend you visit. Check out this Adventuring in the Moment video to see where to find the trailhead and witness this impressive waterfall.
For another local hike take a trip down the road to Sill Branch Falls, which is yet another amazing waterfall we have to boast about here in East Tennessee.
