As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
In a world that’s full of Airbnb rentals and HomeAway apartments tucked in big cities and faraway towns, it’s easy to get wrapped up in what’s cheap and easy. Here in the south, however, a vacation is more about an experience than a cheap bed. The Mayor’s Mansion Inn is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, nestled amongst the forested hills and craggy mountain backdrop of southern Tennessee mountains, and we’ve found that it’s home to one of the most incredible hospitality experiences in the state.
The Mayor's Mansion Inn was once owned and occupied, quite fittingly, by the mayor of Chattanooga. The historic building itself is located in the Fort Wood Historic District, not too far from the famed Tennessee Aquarium, and was built in 1889.
Once you enter the space, it's obvious how much love and attention the home has been given. Once the home of Edmond G. Watkins, it was built as a testament to the south's rebirth after the heartache of the Civil War. Many of the stones used in the home once littered local battlegrounds, now given new life through the beauty of the mansion.
...or perhaps relaxing on the front patio. With 13,000 square feet of space and six incredible suites, it won't be hard to find a nook or cranny to make your own.
There are eleven bedrooms that are each decorated with antique furniture and gorgeous, historic desks and draperies. You may find yourself indulging in a canopy bed, feeling just like royalty.
Make sure that you mention whether or not there will be children with you when booking your room. The staff at the Mayor's Mansion Inn will make sure that your room is kid — and parent — friendly.
You'll have the chance to indulge in a three-course breakfast in the opulent, on-site dining room, or you can choose to enjoy from the comfort of your own bedroom. Make sure you pop by the ballroom or the library if you're in a wandering mood!
You can make reservations online on the Mayor's Mansion Inn official website or by phone, and you can visit for yourself at 801 Vine St. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Happy exploring, friends!
