The Sequatchie Valley in Tennessee is one of the most overlooked and beautiful masterpieces of the state. With so many running on over to the east side in search of the Great Smoky Mountains, this sweet south state hamlet is cast to the side. It’s home to towns such as Dunlap and Jasper, places filled with the kind of magical beauty that you would only expect to find in Narnia.
The Sequatchie Valley is a long, narrow valley that stretches through Tennessee and just barely crosses the state line into Alabama.
It's actually known and lauded for its long and narrow shape. It's fairly unusual for a valley of this size, especially one that ranges over 150 miles, in an (almost!) perfectly straight line.

Here's you can see Ketner's Mill Dam, located in the valley and harkening back to 1882. The Ketner family still owns the land - in true southern fashion - and operated their grist mill until the 1990's.

The valley is bound in on either side by multiple facets of the Cumberland Plateau. One, the relatively narrow Walden's Ridge, to the west is simply the Cumberland Plateau. Little Mountain lies in Bledsoe County and both Sand and Gunters Mountain bind up the whole of it in Alabama.

For all of its geological magnamity and stunning views, the valley also makes for a beautiful place to live. Dunlap, Tennessee consists of a little over 4,000 folks, and South Pittsburg holds an annual cornbread festival that garners tourists from miles around.
