The city of Franklin is known for its historic location right in the heart of the Civil War. You’ll find a whole series of Antebellum-era homes found throughout the area, as well as historic experiences and museums. The Lotz House is perhaps one of the most famous mansions in the area, and the Civil War played an important part in its current historic status and physical stature. Come to experience a world that has long since passed, and learn a bit about the heart of Middle Tennessee.
The Lotz House is located in the heart of downtown Franklin, Tennessee. It's perhaps best known for sitting smack dab in the middle of the historic Battle of Franklin that raged throughout the area on November 30th, 1858.
The historic home was built in 1858 by Johann Albert Lotz, a newly minted Tennessean who hailed from Germany. He was known for his incredible carpentry talent.
The house itself was created to serve as a "show house" for Lotz's potential customers. If you choose to take a guided tour of the property you'll find all sorts of stunning woodwork and antique pieces throughout the space.
It's not just antique furniture and beautiful fixtures throughout the Lotz House, though. Your tour guide will also point out the scars left by the battle fought just outside the front doors.
There's an indentation in the hardwood floor from where a cannonball crashed through the roof and landed in the home below, and there's a series of physical scars throughout the home that are truly unreal.
