My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
We have some beautiful lakes here in Tennessee, so when you want to spend a day on the water, there are plenty of options. Each place, however, has a unique offering and I think they are all worth visiting. Today I want to bring a special place in Tennessee into the spotlight because Reelfoot Lake State Park is a lovely lake that deserves attention.
Part of Reelfoot Lake’s glory resides simply in the beauty of the water. Lone cypress trees jetting out of the water make for the perfect subject for sunset photography. The calming water is alluring whether you enjoy it from the shoreline or launch out on your vessel of choice.
One of the best ways to enjoy the lake is to simply get in a kayak and explore. Paddle your way around and through the dense forest and float in the vast expanse of water.
If you don’t have the equipment needed, no problem, you can rent a kayak or canoe right there in the park. Rangers schedule group trips so make sure to look ahead if you would rather join others and learn more about the area from the experts. They also run boat tours if you prefer a relaxing ride around Reelfoot Lake.

A popular activity on the water is getting out your trusty tackle box and going fishing. Many fishermen have had luck finding bass and catfish from the docks as well as taking a boat out to deeper waters.
The loop is less than half a mile but along the way, you will positioned above the water and work your way through thick groves of cypress trees. These otherworldly trees are some of my favorites and getting a chance to walk among them is a rare treat you are sure to relish.
Many birds call this lake home and come to visit during migrations. Among these avian animals, the most popular is the mighty bald eagle where dozens of them can be found flying around and nesting in the trees. There are plenty of other feathered friends to keep an eye out for too like pelicans, ducks, and so much more. This makes the area very popular for birdwatching at the lake.
You can spend the night right on the edge of the water by booking your trip to the Dancing Diamonds Waterfront Retreat. This vacation rental has been renovated and allows a great way to enjoy Reelfoot Lake. Guests can enjoy their own private deck as they kick back and allow the sound of the water to soothe their souls.
We have some incredible state parks here in Tennessee and each one of them has something unique to offer. Reelfoot State Park highlights the beauty of this northwestern Tennessee body of water and makes good use of it. Grab a kayak, fishing pole, hiking shoes, or all of the above to enjoy this fantastic piece of our state. For more information please visit the Reelfoot Lake State Park website.
