We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
In my travels, I have to say arboretums are some of my favorite places to go. The care and the intentionality that goes into preserving a wide variety of plant life is admirable alone but being able to see all of it in one place makes it all worth it. The Ardinna Woods Arboretum in Jonesborough Tennessee, is committed to showcasing the region’s trees and is open for those who want to take a walk to enjoy the beauty.
Jonesborough is one of those charming towns that is filled with more and more to discover. From a pleasant stroll through downtown to the lush farmlands only minutes down the road. It is one of my favorite towns and just a short mile away from the heart of downtown you can find Ardinna Woods Arboretum.
This Arboretum we're exploring is just one of the great spots to visit in Jonesborough.
The name for the arboretum came from the Celtic goddess of the forest known as Ardinna. If you have ever been to an arboretum then you know there seems to be a touch of magic in the air.
While you are there meander down the the rows of trees that are all local to the region. Some of the species of trees are rather rare now and seeing them all in one place is a fascinating treat for anyone with an appreciation for botany.
Alongside the trees, the garden hosts an impressive array of colors through the various flowers that have been planted and cared for. These are always my favorite parts of any arboretum because our world is filled with so much wonderful color and life.
The garden is also designed to attract butterflies so from May to September is a great time to visit and witness these fluttering and delicate creatures grace the plant life.
The building on site adds to the color with a stunning mural depicting flowers, butterflies, and plants. Make sure to admire this masterpiece when you visit.
