My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
On a beautiful day when the sun is beaming down and the temperatures start to rise, getting in the water has a massive appeal. Happily, we have plenty of options to choose from in Tennessee — natural and man-made. We could jump in a lake or find a popular swimming hole to find ourselves some fun in the water. Or we could hop into a kayak and smoothly paddle down the water and take in the beautiful weather. We suggest taking a kayak trip down the river in Rock Island State Park for one of the most magical adventures in Tennessee.
You’ll start your adventure on the sandy beach area. With the soft river sand under your feet, you can carry your kayak into the water and launch yourself in the calm waters.
There is something so peaceful about the sound of the paddle breaking the surface of the water and gently lifting out again to propel your vessel downstream. As for the scenery, you will have much to take in as you adventure down the river. The calm waters are only the beginning; you will also see pretty plant life hanging on to the cliffside and rock walls that perfectly frame the river.
Along the way, you will encounter many waterfalls seeping out of the rocks and pouring out from up above. You can paddle by the falls, or pick up your paddle and simply enjoy the cadence of the waterfall’s flow.
As you continue paddling you will get lost in the majestic beauty of the waterfalls, losing count of how many you encounter because they are seemingly infinite!
Eventually, you will get to a rocky section and have a view of Twin Falls. This majestic waterfall is a fitting reward and even more enchanting than the trip getting there.
You can beach your kayak on the rocks and spend some time taking in this incredible view. Grab a snack, kick back, and relax while you watch the waterfall and the rougher currents near Twin Falls. The whole trip will take you around a mile to complete but it is packed with so many magical views you are sure to get the most out of this excursion.
Kayaking in Rock Island State Park in Tennessee, is a wonderful adventure filled with calm currents, peaceful scenery, and amazing waterfalls. It is a trip we highly recommend next time the sky is blue and the sun is hot, get out there on the water and enjoy this state park.
