You are never too old to find new hobbies; that is how I found myself at the Johnson City Family Skate Center on a random Thursday night with my family. I have never been roller skating before — sure, I went to the rink as a kid and rollerbladed, but that was a whole different experience. So we planned a night in Johnson City and decided to go on an adorable daddy-daughter date by getting some skates and taking them out for a spin.
I told my daughter to get ready for a little date that we were going on and she was ecstatic. She quickly ran upstairs, got her hair ready, put on a pretty dress, and even picked out her favorite jewelry.
She was simply beautiful as she came down the stairs to show off her new look. She even picked out the shirt she wanted me to wear because blue is her favorite color. It was super cute to see the sparkle in her eyes as we took off on our weeknight adventure together. The Johnson City Family Skate Center might not look like much from the outside, but once you open the doors it is a wholly different experience.
I can tell you if you are looking for roller skating in Johnson City, this is the place to go because when I stepped inside it was like going back in time. It was really fun for me to live out a nostalgic experience of when I used to go to the local skate rink long ago.
Although I have been rollerblading I realized that roller skates feel a lot different. However, after a few times around the rink, I gained some confidence and started to develop a fondness for a brand-new hobby.

My daughter was also in love not only with the chance to do something fun, but the fact that we did it together which made it even better. We held hands as we rolled around and really bonded that night. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a couple of selfies too.
My daughter is still learning to skate, just like me, so we took it slow and mostly stuck to the outside wall. The going was slow, but that didn’t stop us from having an amazing time together.
It was cute how proud of herself she was as she started to gain more momentum and grow in her newfound skill. She did, however, want me to keep snapping pictures of her.
The music was booming and the energy in the room was up. Families everywhere were having so much fun together it was a great safe environment to bring my little girl. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for family-friendly things to do in Johnson City. As the night went on we kept talking about the music, our favorite songs, and laughing at ourselves as we almost fell.
There is also a small snack area where they sell various foods to munch on to refuel before you go back to skating. My daughter realized they actually had one of her favorite items for sale and I knew it would make her night even more special if we got one.
Getting a slushy to end the night was the perfect way to close out the night. It was so amazing to just put everything aside and spend some quality time with my little girl. She was such a fun date I think we will do it again soon. Plus we need to work on our new skills as skaters!
