My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
When a restaurant or any business has been around for a while, it generally means they must be doing something right. It is hard to keep up with all the demands of the hospitality industry, but one little burger joint in Tennessee has not only displayed staying power, but earned a generations of devotees in the process. If you are looking for a place that never takes itself too seriously — with excellent food to boot — then Huey’s in Tennessee is the place to be.
The '70s were a very interesting time in Memphis, Tennessee, and the whole city was experiencing a lot of change. During this state of flux, Huey’s opened its doors.
Right at the turn of the decade, in 1970, a local opened a tiny little humble restaurant. It was primarily a bar at the time, but they did serve burgers and the idea came when the owner just wanted to create a fun place for him and his friends to hang out. What he didn’t know then was just how much fun can be had and what this place would eventually become.
A couple of years later the business was sold and still operated much as usual -- that is, until the hero of this restaurant emerged.
Thomas Bogg joined the operation in 1976 and arrived with quite an impressive resume. He worked his way up to manager and saw an upcoming trend he wanted to capitalize on. He started making a fuller menu and turned this bar into a more casual dining experience. He was a beloved member of the Memphis community and made massive waves in the city with his top-notch service and dedication to giving back. He unfortunately passed away in 2008, but his children are now carrying the torch and filling in his role as the great leader of Huey’s.

Over the years, Thomas created many traditions at Huey’s that makes it stand out from all the other great restaurants in Memphis.
The atmosphere is one of the greatest aspects of the restaurant. You will always find people laughing and having a great time with family and friends. The light-hearted take on dining proves that hard work can be fun. A perfect example is the graffiti wall -- most places discourage defacing public property, but at Huey’s, you are encouraged to add your name to the wall!
The burgers are constantly lauded as the best in Tennessee, and Huey's has been voted the best burger in Memphis several times. So when you go make sure you order one of the burgers, you will not be disappointed. There are a few wonderful and euphoric moments in life, and for me, one of them is to take that first big bite of a flavorful and juicy burger. It’s making me hungry just thinking about it…
The menu is stocked full of quick bites, from sandwiches to fried seafood.
These are the kind of meals that can remind you of carefree lunches with friends and family; the idea is to just simply gather together around great food, and here at Huey’s, they nailed it. As for the price? The menu boasts a variety of options and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Great value and tasty food is always a winning combination.
The spirit of Huey’s has always been “Blues, brews, and burgers."
So it should come as no surprise that in the city that popularized the blues, there are plenty of artists dedicated to the genre. This humble little burger place has earned a reputation for great live music.
A winning combination, indeed! For more information on this amazing blues and burger joint in Memphis, Tennessee, please visit Huey’s website.
