My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
For those of you who just love cats then you know the feeling of having a warm snuggly feline curled up on your lap while you read a book. I get this experience almost every morning with my cat, with an open window the birds are awake and singing and she just curls up to me to enjoy the sunshine and the sound coming from the open window. There is nothing quite as endearing as a loving cat, but what if you could surround yourself with this experience and not tip the scales into becoming a crazy cat person? The House of Mews in Memphis, Tennessee, gives you that opportunity with dozens of cats roaming around. If you fall in love while you are there, and we can almost guarantee you will, then you can adopt one of these lovable cats and give it a wonderful “forever” home.
The House of Mews is the only legal cathouse in Memphis, Tennessee.
They rescue cats from other shelters and care for them until they can find them a loving furrever home. You can walk in and be greeted by dozens of adorable cats who no doubt roll over on their backs to get a good belly rub. It certainly is a niche that I’m sure many people have wished for many years to happen, so to have a place like this Tennessee is a dream come true for cat lovers!
How this wonderful place came to be was all from the desire and loving heart of one woman named Elain.
After seeing over 60 kittens abandoned she knew there had to be a better solution. So in 1994, she started the House of Mews, and fast forward to today and she is still as dedicated to the vision and mission that started it all. She may be the owner, but she has a faithful team of volunteers that help her care for all of the house kitties. People from all walks of life have lent their skills and willing hands to grow this feline paradise.

Around the house, you'll find 50+ cats freely roaming around, excited to greet any guest who ventures through the doors.
So when you visit, be prepared to have your legs rubbed down by the cats... multiple times. Make sure you spend plenty of time inside because you will need it if you want to pet and play with them all!
Not sure if that toy is the right fit for your cat? See what the shop kitties are playing with (this store gives a new meaning to "shop cat," by the way); they would be happy to test run it for you. You can also get a shirt to support the cause of this cathouse.
The owner and volunteers love these adorable cats, but they remain focused on the same vision they have had for over 25 years: every cat deserves a loving home. In the last two decades, they have made good on that by helping over 10,000 kitties find a home.
If you want to be part of this cause, you can join in on the fun too. The House of Mews is always looking for extra hands to help. Make sure you pay them a visit and let your heart swell with love and fill your arms with these lovable furballs.
If you have a conspicuous absence of cats in your life, then the House of Mews in Memphis, Tennessee, is the place for you. You can stock up on supplies, play with the kitties, and be surrounded by the cutest creatures just waiting to be loved… and to give that love right back. Few places will give you that warm and fuzzy feeling of being in love and this is certainly one of them. For more information or to volunteer, please visit the House of Mew’s website.
If you love animals, head to Shelby Farms in Memphis; there’s a herd of bison right in this urban park!
