There are plenty of historic buildings in Tennessee, but when it comes to hotels this one iconic landmark in Memphis takes the cake. From their nationally-acclaimed restaurants to their weekly summer rooftop parties, this hotel truly has something for everyone. Even history buffs will love learning about the famous and influential guests the hotel has hosted over the years. In fact, some of those guests have been staying at the hotel for more than 80 years, and they don’t plan on leaving any time soon. You’ll just have to see for yourself….
The Chez Philippe restaurant has gotten national recognition and was named one of the New York Times' 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in the Nation. And it's only one of 4 restaurants and bars in the hotel.
The most famous attraction at the hotel though is the crew of permanent residents that live on the roof. The Peabody Ducks make a grand entrance every day in to the lobby's fountain from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. before retiring to their palace on the roof.
Did we mention the hotel is historic? The original hotel was built in 1869 and hosted guests including Andrew Johnson, William McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. The hotel's current building was built in the 1920's and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
For those of you ghost hunters out there, it's rumored that the 11th floor is haunted. Many guests have reported phantom whispers and footsteps running down the halls. Spooky!
The Peabody has always been a Memphis staple, and you can visit for yourself any time you like. Whether it's a dinner or brunch at one or the restaurants or a stay in the Presidential Suite, the hotel offers something for everyone.
