If you ever find yourself in Franklin, Tennessee, you'll most likely spend an afternoon wandering the small town's historic Main Street. It's famous across the United States and has been lauded by multiple publications for its family-friendly vibe and great amenities.
As you wander, keep an eye out for the famous Franklin Theatre. You'll be able to tell exactly where it is by the brightly colored marquee announcing current movies or upcoming live music or drama shows.
The marquee itself first lit up on Main Street in the summer of 1937, and it has continued to invite locals inside for a cool escape from the wilds of the world. You can enjoy a full bar, fresh popcorn, and a series of concessions.
Here you can see an old shot of the theatre, curated by the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County. The non-profit organization bought and rehabilitated the historic space after its closure in 2007 due to declining sales.
Nowadays, the Franklin Theatre is looking quite lovely. It's also been outfitted with an incredible sound and lighting system that's perfect for live music and drama performances on the stage.
The Annual Dickens of a Christmas festival is held every year on Main Street, just outside out of the Franklin Theatre. In fact, quite a few events are held yearly just outside the theater's historic doors, making it the perfect landing place after a long day out and about.
The Franklin Theatre sells tickets online, though you can also purchase them on-site. It's a wonderful place for a first date or a family night out, where you can enjoy the historic heart of Franklin with a little contemporary fun.
There’s no better way to beat the heat or perhaps even those sultry summer storms than with an afternoon spent watching your favorite flick. You can research what’s currently playing at the Franklin Theatre on its official website, and you can also keep up to date on its Facebook page.
