Entering This Hidden Tennessee Castle Will Make You Feel Like You’re In A Fairy Tale
The scariest fairy tale out there, that is. Ashlar Hall is one of the strangest buildings in Memphis, a castle-like building that seems more like the home of the fairy tale villain as opposed to the prince or princess. With a history that stretches back to the beginnings of Memphis, this is one spot that you seriously have to drive by.
Hear that? Drive by.
One, because entering is completely and totally illegal, but two, you probably wouldn’t make it out alive. Just sayin’.

Ashlar Hall is known as a historic mock castle that's located in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. It was originally built in 1896 and now presides over the street in its full abandoned glory. Its name comes from the Ashlar stone used to build it.

Last owned by Robert "Prince Mongo" Hodges, the house hasn't seen any renovations since the '90s, and has instead been allowed to rot over time. There have been multiple controversies over the opportunity to renovate the space and utilize it for charity.

The space was used as a night club known as The Castle in the 90s. The multitude of noise complaints and problems with the club itself led to its later demise.

Here you can see the stunning structure circa 1912. It was at one point even used as a restaurant .

Since the quirky Robert Hodges considers himself a 333 year-old alien-ambassador from the fictional planet of Zambodia, he has better things to do. The building was quit-claimed to Kenny Medlin a couple of years ago, so the age of the alien appears to be over. The stunning structure continues to rot, a nod to the diplomacy of the past, a heartrending question of the future.
Would you walk by…? Walking in would be WAY too dangerous, but walking by is solidly permitted. Are you brave enough…?
