As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Ghost stories and ghoulish myths are the lifeblood of the autumn season, but if you’re here in Tennessee there are a few places that boast scary stories throughout the entire year. The Read House Hotel is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and it’s become a well-known haunt (if you will) for luxury seekers and history buffs in tandem. We’ve taken a look at the beautiful building ourselves, and we have to say…this one is a keeper. If you’re looking for a fabulous place to stay with a little edge to it, the Read House is precisely where you need to be.
Most folks visit the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee in search of outdoor adventure and recreation. The downtown area is also a cute place to visit, with locally-owned shops, restaurants, and even the famed Tennessee Aquarium perfect for a day trip.
You'll find the Read House hotel smack dab in the middle of the city, located right off of W MLK Boulevard. The stunning structure is hard to miss, and it has been a part of the local skyline since its opening in 1872.
The Read House is actually the longest continuously operating hotel in the American southeast, and it's even honored on the National Register of Historic Places. It's a hotel with a lot of history, and with a lot of history comes a supernatural edge...
The luxury of the hotel is in no way dimmed by the story of Annalisa Netherly, but we like to think it adds a little depth to the space. Annalisa was said to have been beheaded in a bathtub by a jealous lover, way back in the year 1927. The room? Number 311.
Guests continue to request the room, despite the reported paranormal activity. If you find yourself staying the night, you may see anything from shadowy figures to flickering lights and you may even hear running water from the great beyond.
Visitors swear they have seen her, and there's even a vintage clawfoot tub and an AM radio that hearken back to the murder in the '20s. Annalisa Netherly may be long gone in the physical realm, but her spiritual being continues to haunt the hotel.
We'd highly recommend booking the room for yourself, but if you are staying in the hotel you can request a tour of the haunted room as well. Nothing like a sneak peek without the ghost, don't you think?
If you’re seeking more than just ghosts and perhaps a little more information about the Read House, you can find it either on Facebook or its official website.
There’s beauty everywhere in Tennessee, but oh how we’d recommend an afternoon spent in Knoxville’s Market Square!
