Tennessee is located in the heart of the American south, which means that it is home to a deep and storied history. Whether you find yourself wondering about cold spots in a hotel, on the street or in an old plantation home, you can be sure there are a few spirits hiding just out of sight. If you’re an adventure seeker, then you may want to go a step just beyond a ghost tour and indulge in the scariest sleepover of your life. Would you dare?
The Union Station Hotel is a high class hotel that operates in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. It used to house the Nashville train station, but has been restructured as a luxury hotel with many a nod to its storied past. Room 711 is said to be permanently occupied by supernatural forces, and the ghost of a young woman who threw herself on the train tracks is said to wander the old platform, forever looking for the love she lost to war.
The Old South Pittsburg Hospital has long been considered one of the most haunted places in the state, and for a price you can spend the night in its haunted halls. You can book a public or private investigation, and will spend the evening wandering the old hospital with the help of a ghost guide. Prices vary, but reservations should be made as early as possible. This is one terrifying adventure you don't want to slack on experiencing!
Just one look at the Hales Bar Dam gives us chills, but can you imagine staying the night?! The old powerhouse comes in at just over 100 years old, and you'll enter the underground tunnels of the dam with paranormal investigation gear in hand. This is one sort of spot that will give you chills years after it's over.
Ghost hunters only pay $99 plus tax to spend the entire evening in the Thomas House Hotel, straight through until morning. You'll be outfitted with all the gear needed to find the cold spots and spy eerie phantoms throughout the hotel built in 1890. Why is it haunted, you may ask? Well, if the numerous murders, three counts of unexplained arson and the fact that it once housed a cult doesn't answer that question, we're not sure what would.
You may know the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary because of its horrifying history as "the end of the line." It's where thoroughly violent and life-bound prisoners were held, most famously home to James Earl Ray, the man who shot MLK Jr. You'll have to check the prison's official website for events, but a walk through this terrifying place at night will be sure to give you goosebumps all over.
Once you’ve finished up scaring the bejeezus out of yourself, you can eat away your fear at this under-appreciated local bbq joint. It’s so good, it’s downright scary.
