My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
There is a popular waterfall swimming hole in Spencer, Tennessee, that is so much more than just a place to dip your toes. In fact, you can enjoy the whole area without even touching the water. Cane Creek Cascades is a beautiful waterfall to enjoy any time of the year, but there are a few more points of interest along the way to make the most of your time in the Fall Creek Falls State Park, where it is all located.
Cane Creek Cascades is a beautiful 45-foot waterfall.
The water flows down the black rocks in a magnificent white frothing look, making it unique and an absolute beauty to marvel at. Sitting at the base, you can’t help but enjoy the serene surroundings. You will notice an inviting bridge stretching over the top of the falls.
After parking near the Betty Dunn Nature Center, it’s a simple walk across the parking lot to get to the bridge.
This suspension bridge stretches around 150 feet across the crest of Cane Creek Cascades. The bridge will swing and bounce as you traverse 20 feet above the creek below. This is certainly a thrilling adventure and one we highly recommend while exploring Fall Creek Falls State Park. The other end of the bridge continues on in a couple of different directions leading to waterfall overlooks and other fun places in the park.

The top of the falls is another beautiful section. Catch the light just right, and you may see a rainbow glistening in the mist of the roaring creek.
You won't have to work very hard for the scenic reward here. Before you know it, you will be at the end of the stairs, and you only have to climb down a couple of rocks to arrive at the swimming area.
There are plenty of places to rest on the smooth rocks at the base of the waterfall. You can dip your feet in, climb the rocks, or just lie in the sun with this gorgeous backdrop.
Close to the parking lot again is a small staircase leading down to an overlook to a massive rock amphitheater-like gorge, where you will see the mighty Cane Creek Falls plunge 85 feet to the pool below.
You can experience more than just a waterfall swimming hole in Spencer, Tennessee – you can hike across a suspension bridge and witness a massive waterfall overlook. Most people will visit Fall Creek Falls, the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi River, which we also highly recommend, but don’t miss this excellent spot when you are in the park. For more information about the park, head on over to the Fall Creek Falls State Park website.
