My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
One of my favorite things about living in Tennessee is the wide variety of hiking trails you can find all over the state. As an avid hiker, I love the challenge of rugged rough terrain found throughout sections of the Appalachian Trial from short and simple trails to waterfalls. Our state is filled with unparalleled beauty everywhere you turn and that is certainly the case with today’s feature. The Hall Bend Trail in Lenoir City is one of those picture-perfect places to take a stroll by the water’s edge and you won’t regret lacing up your shoes and tackling this lovely lakeside hike in Tennessee.
The Hall Bend Trail is a moderately rated hike that will take you on a five-mile loop with only 242 feet of elevation gain. If you are looking for a pleasant stroll that follows the water’s edge and offers plenty of forested covering this is the perfect place for you.
Make sure to get the AllTrails app and track your hike too -- I never leave on a hike without it.
The trail is open year round, so pick your favorite season and head down the path. The array of foliage in the fall makes the forest pop with brilliant colors while the winter will allow further visibility through the leafless trees. A fresh coat of snow can always make for an enchanting walk, but if you are more like me, I prefer the warm sun in the summer and enjoy the bright green grass.
Life takes on a slower pace in Tennessee and you will also find that true here on the Hall Bend Trail. There are plenty of benches which are perfect for a little bit of solitude on your hike. Sit and soak in the rhythms of the water or watch for birds freely flying from tree to tree.
Dogs are welcome on the trail so make sure to leash your furry companions and take off on an adventure with your pet. They are sure to love the plethora of smells and if it gets too hot they can always dip in the water for a while. Just make sure to bring those doggie bags and clean up after your bundles of joy so others can fully enjoy the trail too!
The most obvious point of interest on the trail is the water; however, keen-eyed observers will find plenty to enjoy along the way. The trail is teeming with interesting plant life even some unique greenery you wouldn’t expect to see in Tennessee.
Keep an eye along the side of the path for plenty of colorful wildflowers, I find a slash of color during a hike to be particularly fun. The trail even has a gravestone hidden in the woods from the 1800s so make sure you take the time to slow down and really appreciate the big and little things in our world.
A trip around this loop trail offers many opportunities to soak in the beauty and maybe even see the world a little differently. Getting outside and breathing fresh air all while enjoying views like this makes me extra proud to be a Tennessean.
Hall Bend Trail in Lenoir City, Tennessee is more than just a lovely lakeside hike — no, this place actually symbolizes what it’s like to travel around the volunteer state. Slowing down you can learn to appreciate the little things like wildflowers all while still soaking in the beauty of the still water. A trip to this loop trail is a day well spent!
