Did you know that there’s a small kingdom hiding in West Tennessee? Well, it claims to be a kingdom, anyway. It all revolves around the unincorporated town of Skullbone, the Capital of Skullbonia, which is probably one of the quirkiest and most unique crossroads you’ve ever seen. From the cowboy boots on the telephone pole to the general store stocked with some of the weirdest items you’ve ever seen at a rural Tennessee general store, Skullbone is easily the funkiest town in Tennessee. See for yourself….
Welcome to the city of Skullbone, population ... zero. The unincorporated town is about an hour northwest of Jackson and is really just home to the quirkiest general store you've ever seen.
The only map that Skullbone appears on is the giant mural map on the side of the Hampton's General Store. The map proudly proclaims Skullbone as the capitol of the Kingdom of Skullbonia.
The town is basically just a crossroads. If you get lost, the signs at the crossroad will point you in the right direction, whether you're headed to Miami, Mexico City, or Moscow.
The town even has a mayor's office on the second floor of the store, but strangely no one ever seems to be there. The town got its name because it was known for bare knuckle fights. Weird, right?
You've got to visit this place for yourself to appreciate the weirdness. And if you want the full experience, be sure to bring a pair of old cowboy boots and nail them to the telephone pole along with the others.
Here’s a little video that will give you a tour of the town and show you just how small and quirky this place is.
