Visit Fort Louden State Park, A Reconstructed British Frontier Fort In The Hills Of East Tennessee
Here in Tennessee, we have tons of history. From the early Native Americans who built and established Old Stone Fort to the efforts of countless brave Americans during the Civil Rights movement, there’s no shortage of history for those who love it. One lesser-known spot in the state, however, is Fort Louden State Park, a reconstructed British Fort from the colonial era. Stepping into the fort is like stepping back in time. This is one bit of Tennessee history you don’t want to pass up.

Tucked into the hills of East Tennessee, Fort Louden is one of the earliest historic sites in the entire state.

The fort was built by the British in 1756 as a frontier outpost, one of the first on the West side of the Appalachian Mountains.

The fort was sieged by the local Cherokee tribes in 1760, but a replica of the fort was built on the site in the 20th century based on descriptions written by the fort's original builder.

Everything down to the size and orientation of the barracks has been replicated, making this state park one of the most unique looks into early Tennessee history that you will find anywhere.

Today, the park puts on all kinds of recreations and exercises, demonstrating what life at the fort would have looked like as well as what British soldiers stationed at the fort would have done while they were there.

That includes demonstrations of period weapons including historic muskets and cannons. It's a great way to experience history firsthand.

Fort Louden is open 7 days a week throughout the year from 8 a.m. to sunset. If you love Tennessee or even American history, this is another spot you simply must add to your bucket list. Address: 338 Fort Loudoun Road, Vonore, TN 37885
