Prentice Cooper State Forest consists of almost 25,000 acres in Marion County Tennessee, and though its hiking trails are popular with locals, many folks from out of town don't know that the famed Tennessee River Gorge sits at its center. The state of Tennessee area acquired in the 1930s, and by the mid-1940s it was officially named a state forest.
