From the mountains of East Tennessee to the flood plains of the Mississippi River in West Tennessee, there is plenty to do for anyone willing to take a day and go exploring. Here’s just a few options….

Dolly Parton's famous amusement park in the hills of East Tennessee is a great spot to visit for anybody in the state. Plus, you can do the whole park in a day, unlike Disney World.

The Natchez Trace runs from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi, and you can do the whole drive out and back in a day. Or, if you don't have a whole day, you can do the Tennessee leg in half a day.

The Tennessee Central Railway operates a train that leaves on weekends regularly from Nashville to one of a handful of wineries east of the city. See the countryside while sipping on some wine? Sounds good to us.

Tennessee has tons of waterfalls, and they're all worth taking the time to see.

Burgess Falls is one of the most beautiful in the state, if not in the nation. It's about a 1.5 mile hike from the parking lot, and since it's in Middle Tennessee, it can be a day trip for anyone in the state.

The Harpeth River just West of Nashville is one of the most scenic waterways in the state, and there are plenty of companies in the area that offer canoe trips for a day.

Surely you've seen the million billboards on the way to Chattanooga advertising these two spots. They may get a lot of hype, but they're worth it, and you can do them both in the same day.

There's a lot in the Smokies from Gatlinburg to Cade's Cove. You can hike up to Mount Le Conte too!
