My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
National Trails Day is a recognized holiday where we shine the light on our amazing hiking trails throughout our country. I certainly appreciate this day — but to be honest, I do this every day. Nevertheless, National Trails Day gives us another great reason to explore our awesome state. In honor of this day, the National Parks Service designated nine new trails — and one of them was right here in the Volunteer State! As of June 3, 2023, the Enterprise South Nature Park is officially registered and recognized by the National Parks Service. Hop on some new trails in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and make good use of this incredible natural area.
The Enterprise South Nature Park has been around for awhile, so these aren’t new trails per se, but they have been given the spotlight -- and we'll take it!
With over 70 miles and over 10 trails, this park is a great option for those in the city to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Tennessee does a pretty good job of not overcrowding its natural areas with busy city life, but it's always a nice change of pace to get away from it all and find somewhere quiet to recreate.
Take your dog for a walk, stroll through the woods, or explore the sights -- the choice is yours and there are many options at Enterprise South Nature Park.
Make your way through the woods and find yourself at the hidden lake. This is a quiet place that is perfect to take a break and hear the frogs croak, the birds sing, and watch the dragonflies zoom around.

With a vast area of protected forest, you always have a high chance of finding some wildlife along your journey. This is a great spot to be on the lookout for birds in the treetops, coyotes lounging in the grass, or deer grazing in the fields.
Along the trails and in the woods you can find 100 of these hidden doors. They are used as storage, reference points, and emergency locations. Most of them are closed but a couple are open to the public to get a peek inside and explore.
Not only does this park boast 70 miles perfect for hiking, but the wide paths also work perfectly for mountain biking.
Many people will use these trails to cycle through the ups and downs of the forest. Check the map before you go (link below) to find a variety of trails ranging from beginner all the way up to advanced.
When you are done breaking a sweat and working up an appetite, grab a table and have a picnic in the park.
Whenever I travel, I love being able to drive up to a picnic bench and I relish the chance to eat outside. I never want to miss a moment spent in the great outdoors, and you don’t have to either when you explore the Enterprise South Nature Park.
These trails in Chattanooga, Tennessee, offer lots of wonderful ways to enjoy the great outdoors. We will take any opportunity we can get to highlight amazing places to travel within our incredible state, and we are just thankful that the National Parks Service sees that too. So we encourage you to get outside and check out this wonderful park. For more information, please visit the Enterprise South Nature Park’s website.
