Tennessee is known for its historic and southern charm, but every once in a while we stumble across a local spot, tucked deep in the valleys or perhaps high in the mountains, that gives us all sorts of warm and fuzzy feels. The Cumberland Mountain General Store is located in Clarkrange, Tennessee, and it’s one of our favorite places to visit when we’re looking to step back in time.
The tiny town of Clarkrange isn't much more than a crossroads on the Cumberland Plateau, but it's absolutely worth a visit.
The Cumberland Mountain General Store offers a little something for everybody, whether it's antiques, homemade fudge, or the best fried fish you'll find anywhere.

The general store has been operating since 1923 and still features many of the original fixtures and products. They specialize in selling "ole stuff," as they call it.

The store is also home to a small diner that serves up lunch five days a week.
The diner is straight out of the 50's and includes all of the Americana nostalgia that you would hope for from a diner like this.
I mean, we'd go for just the ice cream. Just look at this!
The store is open starting at 10 a.m. every day of the year, but they're closed occasionally depending on the weather or whether or not the owner is out getting more stock for the store. To be sure they'll be open, call ahead!

The Cumberland Mountain General Store is absolutely worth the trip, but like we said, visit their website and call ahead to make sure they're open. Visit them in Clarkrange at 6807 South York Hwy.
