There’s nothing quite like a trip to the zoo to cap off a solid week. Whether you’re bringing tiny visitors to ogle exotic animals that bring faraway places to life, or if you’re deep into adulthood and looking for a little magic, the Chattanooga Zoo is a must-visit for a fun Tennessee day trip. It’s a bit off the beaten path and doesn’t get as much hoopla as the Nashville or Knoxville zoos, but it remains a hidden gem that’s perfectly situated and organized for a family day out.
The Chattanooga Zoo is a tidy zoological park that's made up of 13 solid acres in Warner Park, right in the heart of Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was established in 1937 and was originally home to a few cages of Rhesus monkeys -- and has since become one of the most notable zoos in the southern Tennessee region.
The facilities are top-notch, and you'll find exhibits like the Corcovado Jungle and Walkin' the Tracks to be home to everything from bobcats and prairie dogs to jaguars, spider monkeys, and kinkajous.
The zoo is constantly making plans to expand, which only elevates the experience for visitors. In the future, the location hopes to open even more exhibits and host more educational experiences for folks.
The tours and encounters make for a great way to get involved. There's a giraffe feeding experience, and you can book a "wild encounter" that's fully controlled and monitored by an employee, with a red panda, meercat, Komodo dragon, and even a capybara!
Zoo tours also take place from Friday to Sunday, and the paid upgrade will up the ante on your visit to the carnivore exhibit, reptile area, or even primate experience. At just $10 for an adult upgrade and $5 for children, the seasonal tours are perfect for an affordable adventure at the Chattanooga Zoo.
You can purchase tickets for adults from $12.95 to $14.95, whereas children ages 3 to 12 can visit for $9.95 if tickets are reserved online. Prices are slightly higher if purchased on-site without an original online reservation.
The Chattanooga Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and New Years Day, when it's closed. Keep in mind that hours may fluctuate depending on the location's special event calendar.
What an incredible place to visit! You can learn more about the Chattanooga Zoo either at its official website or Facebook page.
