When it comes to the winter season, all folks are looking for is a place to warm up after a cold day spent out and about in the city. It takes a toll, shuffling from one’s warm bed to a freezing car, then from the car to the sure-to-be cold office. The darkness of winter can be comforting and is definitely cozy, but the cold can be a bit overwhelming. If you’re in Memphis, Tennessee, then we would invite you to slough off the chill of winter with a visit to Catherine & Mary’s. This under-appreciated local gem is bound to warm you from the inside out with its menu chock full of Italian classics.
Catherine & Mary's is an Italian eatery located in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. The beautiful space opened a handful of years ago by Memphis born-and-bred chef's, Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman.
The restaurant has since become known for its stunning interior and creative spins on Italian classics, inspired by the heart of the American south. Catherine & Mary's is a sister restaurant to Hog & Hominy, which has been nationally recognized for its inventive decadence.
When the sun goes down, this bar lights up. The entire restaurant is lit by warm, low lighting and paired with a menu that's inspired by the heart of Italy. Imagine your grandmother's warm kitchen and the feeling you get from a delicious meal at her table, surrounded by the ones you love. That, friends, is what to expect from Catherine & Mary’s.
The menus boast a flavorful multi-course experience. There's a dinner, brunch, and dessert menu, along with a special Happy our menu that's served from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. A deep wine menu rounds out the dining fare well.
Start your meal with a craft cocktail and perhaps a salumi board, which is stocked with house charcuterie, breadsticks, pickled vegetables and horseradish-dijon to top it all off. The cacio e pepe tagliatelle will transport you straight to Rome, and there's nothing like a plate of caramelle that's steeped with confit duck, gorgonzola, sweet potato, sage and pecan.
Come with an empty belly and leave with a full heart. Winter is draining, but there's something life-giving about an evening spent amongst friends and good pasta. Us? We're indulging in a plate of lasagna that reminds us of childhood. Cheesy, warm goodness is all we're looking for this season.
Will you be joining during the chilly season? You can visit Catherine & Mary's for yourself from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Sunday brunch.
