Cascade Hollow Distillery is a deep cut for many whiskey enthusiasts. You won't find it on the Tennessee must-visit lists, and although it's most likely not going to be found on shareable tips and tricks blogs, it's a historic space that offers a one-of-a-kind experience.
The distillery was first built in 1878 and has made a name for itself by bottling corn-based whiskey. It was founded by George Dickel and is also known as the George Dickel Distillery.
In fact, Dickel is the second-oldest whiskey to be made and bottled in Tennessee, and at the Cascade Hollow Distillery, quality is of the essence. You can expect prime ingredients in every batch. On your visit, you can indulge your inner Southerner with a moment on the rocking chairs placed on the distillery's wraparound porch, perfect for a quiet afternoon after a tour.
Cascade Springs is a natural spring in the area that's both known for its limestone-rich deposits and fresh, clear water. It's the source of all the water used at the distillery, which means you'll get a taste of all-natural Tennessee with every sip. Come by in the fall and you'll even have a view of all the autumn leaves lighting the valley in a red, orange, and yellow glow.
George Dickel may be a little less well-known than Jack Daniels, but you can be sure that it's just as steeped in Volunteer State history. Even as a small-scale whiskey producer, the locally-owned distillery still operates tours, a gift shop, and tastings for visitors.
The distillery is surrounded by 600 acres of beautiful Tennessee forest and clear, burbling streams. It's where you'll find fine American whiskey and the passionate people who bottle it daily. The Cascade Hollow Distillery has put a hold on distillery tours through the COVID-19 pandemic but encourages visitors to come by for shopping at the visitor center and for personalized tastings. Changes will be made based on CDC guidelines. At the time of publication, the distillery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Cascade Hollow Distillery remains closed from Monday to Wednesday.
