There’s A Little Town Hidden In The Tennessee Mountains And It’s The Perfect Place To Relax
Sevierville and Gatlinburg get a lot of love out there on the eastern side of the state, but why don’t we hear about the smaller towns? It’s so rare to hear about a sweet community tucked up in the mountains, far and away from the crazy, tourist infused beauty of the larger cities. We decided to dig a little deeper and take a look at one too-often passed over small town in the mountains. Are you in need of a vacation? Because we know where you’re stopping.

Wears Valley is a small, tight-knit community located in the Great Smoky Mountains. It's known for its gorgeous views and low-key take on southern life.

The area got its name from Samuel Wear, who himself was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He built a fort right at the entrance to the valley, which eventually became — drum roll, please — Pigeon Forge.

Although the tiny space may seem to be overwhelmed by the breadth of its nearby brother, the valley actually boasts its own fun attractions and homey restaurants that are great for a quiet trip to the mountains.

The community truly leans into every holiday and season, which means you'll come and immediately be flanked by Christmas trees or fall foliage, depending on the time of year.

The valley itself is only fifteen square miles, but Metcalf Bottoms and Laurel Falls are known as some of the most popular trails in the area. You can go out and explore — even if there's just a smidge of a city. There are quite a few cabin rentals available as well, so you can stay away from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge but still manage to drive in for the fun.

Insiders tip... did you know that Wears Valley has a secret entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park? It's true. Although it's not an "official" entrance, its still widely used by locals.

Wears Valley is renowned in the area for its panoramic views of the mountains, but it still tends to be a little-known secret. Come and enjoy, and quietly tell a friend. This is a gorgeous space meant for peace and total relaxation.
Also… have you visited Tennessee’s first EVER state park? It’s still absolutely stunning.
