Tennessee is one of the best places in the world to indulge in fried catfish and chicken, and it’s where you can find pies and cakes and cookies in spades. There are all sorts of locally owned and operated bakeries that make delicious and decadent treats, but it’s Muddy’s Bake Shop in Tennessee that’s been honored by The Food Network for having the absolute BEST cake in the state. If you haven’t been, then you need to go. It’s a pure southern delight.
The fresh, fun and friendly atmosphere of each storefront lends itself to the traditional treats behind the window. The folks at Muddy's bake their goods daily, using tried-and-true traditional southern methods for their cakes, cookies and cupcakes.
The treats at Muddy's are almost innumerable, from the popular Frankly Scarlett red velvet cake to deluxe chocolate chip cookies and cheesecake bars to pies by the slice, like the southern pecan Shady Wake.
Of course, it's the Pucker Up lemon cake that earned a nod from the popular Food Network channel. It's the perfect balance of sweet and tart, a yellow lemon cake that's made with pure lemon juice and quality ingredients.
Come with friends and family, order for a party or to go. Muddy's is such a friendly space that it'll be hard to leave, and those Oatmeal Everything Cookies are addicting.
You can find an updated baked treat menu on the Muddy's Bakeshop website every day, but make sure to show up to find a series of "bakers' choice" surprises at the store. There are grab 'n go cakes and cupcakes, mini pies, sliches of quiche and much more.
Muddy's Bake Shop has multiple locations, and you'll have the best luck visiting from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. on the weekends. Keep in mind that they're closed on Sundays, so plan ahead! Address: 5101 Sanderlin Avenue, Suite 114
