Going to a drive-in movie is like being catapulted back in time. There’s something about noshing on a bag of popcorn in the car or snacking on nachos from the back of a pickup truck that really drives home the feeling of a small-town Saturday night. The Stardust Drive-In Theatre in Watertown, Tennessee, has long been a local favorite and was just listed as one of the top drive-in theaters in the nation by Mental Floss. Learn all about it below!
The Stardust Drive-In Theatre is located in Watertown, Tennessee, and is a two-screen local attraction that showcases double features late into the night. You'll find a mix of new and classic films on the schedule, as well as a series of kid-friendly experiences.
A visit is like a true visit to the past. Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me you built a time machine?! No, not quite, but the Stardust is the closest you're going to get nowadays.
The Stardust opened in 2003 and has become a fixture to the local community. Along with movies, you can catch broadcasts of live concerts and events on the big screen as well. You'll pay-per-visitor, and will want to plan on a bit of a wait at the concession counter.
What can we say? Popcorn is popular! Outside food is not allowed on the premises, so make sure you bring an empty belly that's ready for cheesy nachos, slices of pizza, juicy cheeseburgers, and yes, an all-American hot dog.
The Stardust opens and operates from the months of March to November. If you visit during the summer, most notably between Memorial Day weekend and mid-August, you may even be able to visit every day of the week.
New movies start on Friday, and bookings open up on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please note that the Stardust schedule is online, and we'd highly recommend making a reservation beforehand to avoid lines. Plus, drive-ins have experienced a bit of a renaissance and you don't want tickets to sell-out before you can snag one.
Have you been to the Stardust Drive-In Theatre? Admission is 8.50 for adults, $6.50 for children, and little ones under the age of five are always free. Make sure you check their official website to plan on movie times and experiences.
