My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
There are moments we adventurers always live for. When you are high on a ridge line overlooking the immaculate landscape filled with mountains as far as you can see. Take a deep breath and just marvel at the beauty surrounding you. This is what you will find at this overlook in East Tennessee.
Tennessee is known for its impressive mountains and lush green forests.
The Beauty Spot is a section of the Appalachian Trail that passes over Unaka Mountain. The grassy bald mountain top sits on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina.
Depending on the season the road may have washouts or large rocks strewed across the path. We recommend a high clearance vehicle but for the most part, they maintain the road and you should have no trouble getting to the trailhead.
It is easy to see why this section of the trail got its name. Sweeping views of the mountains in Tennessee and peaks as far as the eye can see into North Carolina. The area usually is not busy and will give you quiet solitude on the mountain.
You are free to just walk the path a little way or just stand and marvel at the gorgeous overlook. We think you will agree, when you are up there it's hard to take your eyes away.
The Beauty Spot is one of the most accessible overlooks in all of East Tennessee. With a short walking path and incredible unobstructed views, it is easy to see this spot living up to its name. If you want to see more of this trail then check out this Adventuring in the Moment video.
If you just can not get enough of the views found at the Beauty Spot then the overlooks at Roan Mountain should be your next stop. Make sure to hike the ridgeline and take in the views at this incredible state park.
