Tennessee is well known for a myriad of delicious foods whether you’re looking for a creamy dessert, perhaps like banana pudding, or a crispy, crunchy bite of fried catfish. The town of Lynchburg, Tennessee is tucked away in the lush hills of Moore County, and though it’s known mainly for Jack Daniels Whiskey and its distillery, there’s also a little spot called Barrel House BBQ that serves a solid plate of BBQ. Some of the best in the state, we’d argue. Learn more below!
Barrel House BBQ is tucked away off the main drag in Lynchburg, Tennessee, a homey smokehouse that boasts rural-inspired Southern décor and true local hospitality. The restaurant is in an old laundromat, once known as the "Wishy Washy."
Kind and consistent service sent this small-town restaurant from a local hotspot to a nationally lauded BBQ restaurant in just a handful of years. Within just a year of its opening, Chuck Baker, the owner of Barrel House BBQ, was invited to be a contestant on BBQ Pitmasters, a television show hosted by BBQ Pitmasters. The national exposure sent the popularity of Barrel House BBQ through the roof.
If you come to visit, you’ll find pulled pork, ribs, sausage, and chicken served fresh from the pit, and the sauces are both finger-lickin’ good and made from scratch.
If you ask anyone at Barrel House BBQ what the main goal of the eatery is, you’ll receive one resounding answer: to make friends! The BBQ joint is a community hub, the kind of place where you come with your kids and your best friends and the neighbor from down the street for a little something delicious to up the ante on the day.
We’d recommend the entire menu, but the "grilled cheese on crack" is what Barrel House BBQ has inadvertently become known for. Expect a classic grilled cheese sandwich made with barbecue pork and three types of sauce. Talk about decadence!
Visit Barrel House BBQ from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday. The kitschy local spot is closed from Monday to Wednesday during the winter, but make sure you check updated information when the seasons shift.
