If you know anything about Memphis, then you know a thing or two about Beale Street. As the sun goes down this street comes alive with flashing lights and live music. If honky tonks are not your thing then no need to worry because during the day there is a historic place on Beale Street that is unique in every way. Head on over to this store in Memphis to see the oddities for sale yourself.
The store originally only sold shoes and boots, however, it expanded to other clothing later. As additions were added and time rolled on the need to adapt to change was inevitable. In 1974 the museum was added. As early as the 1980s, Beale Street started emerging as an entertainment district. A.Schwab was on the ground floor and capitalized by selling souvenirs and gifts unique to the local culture and heritage.
Today you can find a plethora of interesting and unique items. Old-timey toys and gifts as well as oddities that celebrate the culture and rich history of Memphis.
At A.Schwab you will find lots of gifts that all symbolize the musical history of the city. Elvis, Johnny Cash, and classic blues artist are only a few of the themes you will find on cups, artwork, and souvenirs.

A.Schwab is perhaps most famous for its old-fashioned soda fountain.
Perfectly crafted milkshakes, sodas, and other items are prepared by the A.Schwab soda jerks. The name may seem comical, but it is actually a common name for soda fountain clerks in the 20s through the 50s. They do not take themselves seriously though, you will find hysterical items all throughout the store.
Upstairs you will find the museum. Items can be found to showcase the history of the area. Farming tools, old jugs, newspaper clippings, and old blues records are just some of the items on display.
So if you need a break from all of the lights and sounds, step back in time at this old-fashioned store in Memphis. A.Schwab is a great place for a laugh, a soda, or to catch up on some fine history. This is not just a store it is part of the story of Memphis, Tennessee.
