I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
Sitting just off the coast of San Diego is Coronado Island with its stunning shoreline. A beach vacation in Coronado California is a treat any time of year. Boasting moderate temperatures year-round, island breezes, gorgeous views, and a slew of activities, visitors never tire of what has been called one of the best beaches in California. Are you ready for your island getaway?
Coronado Beach is known for its crystal blue waters, varied landscape, and amazing views.
Coronado is accessible via the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, which is not only the longest bridge in Southern California, but also one of the most visually interesting due to its curved and sloping shape.
The bridge provides incredible views at both ends, of the beach town on Coronado Island as well as the San Diego skyline.

The water is not the only thing that sparkles at Coronado Beach. The mica content in the sand makes the long shoreline sparkle, lending to its enchanting appeal.
The west-facing waters and water facing the bay are ideal for body surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking and boogie boarding, due to the gentle waves in these areas. Year-round lifeguards, as well as the availability of restrooms and showers, make this a great choice for family vacations.
At low tide, you can explore the many tidepools that appear on the shore. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture the colorful creatures that can be seen among the rocks.
For a change of pace, enjoy strolling among the dunes or playing a game of volleyball on the sand. With seemingly endless activities, your vacation will be anything but dull.
Away from the water, the walking and cycling path along the beach provides even more scenery, from dunes and palm trees to magnificent Coronado beach homes.
Perhaps one of the most memorable sights on Coronado Beach is the iconic Hotel Del Coronado, the second largest wooden structure in the country. This historic landmark was built in 1888 and is famous for its Victorian architecture as well as its feature role in the 1959 Marilyn Monroe film, "Some Like It Hot."
For the ultimate Coronado Beach vacation, you can book a luxurious room at this historic resort. Even if you stay elsewhere in Coronado, you can enjoy Del Coronado's collection of beachfront eateries, including the Sun Deck, Beach and Taco Shack, ENO Market and Pizzaria, and Sundaes ice cream shop. Hungry for more? Why not read a bit about the Hotel Del Coronado's history?
