Whether you’re an animal lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys embracing new experiences, a trip to the Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in the town of Lucerne, California is an outing like no other. Here’s a closer look at what you’ll find when you make a visit to this unique destination in Southern California where you can interact with wolves.
Founded in 1986, this non-profit wolf sanctuary was created as a shelter for wolves who were rescued after being born in captivity and unable to live out in the wild on their own.
It would be ideal if each resident wolf could roam free and live out in the wild, but they are here at this sanctuary because they are unable to care for themselves in the wild and most likely would not survive.
More than just a destination where you can view the wolves from afar, this sanctuary is one of the few locations in the country where you can interact with the wolves and step inside their outdoor shelter to feed them, pet them, and give them lots of cuddles.
In addition to providing shelter to the wolves who are not fit for living in the wild, Wolf Mountain Sanctuary believes that providing human interaction in the form of hands-on care and attention from visitors helps provide a rewarding experience for the wolves. And let's be honest, it's also a very rewarding experience for those of us who get a chance to experience this in person.
During your visit, make sure to carve out some time to take a look around the gift shop. You'll definitely want to have a memento to take home so you can remember this unique outing.
Wolf Mountain Sanctuary is open for interactive tours Thursday through Sunday. Tour hours are between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the last tour starting at Noon. A $25 donation is required for each one-hour tour.
