In Southern California, almost any time of the year is a great time to be near the water. Whether it’s the ocean, a river, or a lake, the SoCal area is brimming with amazing aqua sites for enjoyment and relaxation.
One of the most popular is the beautiful Lake Piru. Come along as we explore this recreational hot spot offering something for everyone!
Lake Piru is located in Ventura County a little over an hour north of Los Angeles.
Like many reservoir lakes, it came into being after the construction of a dam. In this case it was the Santa Felicia Dam on Piru Creek which was built in 1955.
Everywhere you look you can take in views of the 12 miles of spectacular shoreline here sandwiched between the Los Padres National Forest and Topatopa Mountains.
In addition to a busy launch ramp, visitors here also have access to a variety of boat slips and a marina store for stocking up on any needed boating and recreational supplies. A boat rental facility is also in the works.
Lake Piru draws anglers of all types and abilities to its shores for some of the best fishing in the Southern California area. Fishing tournaments are also held here.
When not on the water, there is plenty more to enjoy. The 238 campground sites can accommodate every type of camper from those in tents to trailers, traditional recreational campers, and large RVs. There is also a sizeable picnic area featuring disc golf, a family playground, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, and other amenities.
For a relaxing day at the lake, Lake Piru is a must for your outdoor recreation itinerary.
Have you been to Lake Piru? If so, what did you and your family enjoy the most? We’d love to see your photos and hear about your experience there.
