Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like being a Southern Californian. Whether you grew up in this part of the state or you’ve lived here long enough to feel like this is home, we can pretty much all relate to these undying habits that are simply part of what comes with the territory when living in SoCal. Here are the 10 habits that prove you can never take Southern California out of the Southern Californian. How many of them can you claim to be true?
1. We CRINGE when anyone refers to Southern California as "Cali."
A true Southern Californian may call it SoCal, but we'll never EVER call it Cali. Even if we ever move out of state, that is one habit that will never change.
2. Southern Californians will always plan a commute in minutes, not miles.
After commuting in SoCal, you quickly develop the habit of never paying attention to how many miles to a destination as us Southern Californians all know it's the minutes that matter. All it takes is one traffic hiccup and one mile can easily equal thirty minutes.
3. We own tons of flip-flops.
Living in Southern California means owning tons of flip-flops for every occasion. Casual flip-flops. Fancy flip-flops. Beach flip-flops. And yes, even around-the-house flip-flops. We pretty much love flip-flops and always will.
4. We don't just go to the park to have fun...
We also go there to do a work out. Who's up for some lunges?
5. We won't be caught outside without our sunscreen.
When you live in Southern California, you get used to having a bottle of sunscreen handy every day of the year. In the purse. In the glove box. In the desk at work. We absolutely don't walk out the door unless we are slathered in SPF.
6. We walk barefoot on the beach...in the winter!
Walking barefoot on the beach in the wintertime is just a way of life for us in Southern California. Especially because winter feels just like summer in many parts of SoCal.
7. We love to eat Mexican food...but only when we're in SoCal.
Once you've had Mexican food in Southern California, you'll find that it never quite hits the spot like it does in SoCal.
8. We automatically order avocado with everything.
When you're a Southern Californian, there's nothing more natural than adding avocado to pretty much anything we eat. Even if it's not on the menu we'll ask for it as it's just assumed that every restaurant in SoCal has some fresh avocados laying around.
9. Bringing a jacket along just in case the temps drop below 70.
Southern California may be sunshine and blue skies all year, but that doesn't stop us Southern Californians from getting chilly. No matter what time of year, you can always spot someone from SoCal as they'll always bring along a jacket or sweater just in case the temps get below 70.
10. Calling it "The 10."
It's just a Southern California way of life to add the word "The" before all of our freeways. The 10. The 5. The 405. It's just one of those habits that every Southern Californian will never be able to shake no matter where else they ever live.
How many of these habits sound familiar to you? What else would you add to the list?
