Are you on a mission to find the best pie in Southern California? We have the road trip for you! Hop in the car and go from Costa Mesa to Julian on this delicious adventure.
Check out this map for a nice, easy route to all four places.
If you’ve got a group that wants both sweet and savory pies, you’ll be glad you started at Pop Pie Co. in Costa Mesa. You’ll have your choice of all types! One option is the breakfast pies with bacon, sausage, soyrizo, or mushroom. Savory pies include steak and ale, Aussie meat, or roasted veggies and yellow curry. Everyone will have a great choice with the variety available. With vegan options, meat options, and delicious sides like mashed potatoes, all your group members will be thrilled. For dessert, try any of the sweet fruity or creamy pies. Salted Caramel Apple, Coconut Cream, and Strawberry Rhubarb are just a few of the tasty slices you can have.
Jump in the car and head down to Carlsbad in Northern San Diego for a trip to Village Kitchen & Pie Shoppe. You’ll be amazed by the variety available to you at this sweet neighborhood shop. There are great chocolate choices. You’ll love the classic chocolate, Oreo cookie, and mixtures with fruit or peanut butter. If you prefer the fruitiest pies, check out the Dutch Apple, Peach, Banana, Sour Cream Apple, and Cherry. There is even a sugar free option here in a slightly different version of Banana.
Elizabethan Desserts has a wide array of incredible desserts. There are bars, cakes, cheesecakes, cookies, cupcakes, and, of course, pies. If you are a fan of crumble pies, this bakery will be your new number one spot. Apple Crumbly Pie, Cherry Lattice Pie, and Betty’s Berry Crumble Pie are just three of the ones you will absolutely have to take home with you! One option you won’t find anywhere else is the decadent chocolate cookie dough pie.
You can’t talk about pie in Southern California without including the classic Mom’s Pie House in Julian. This charming small town is a local favorite, and you’ll see why as soon as you walk down the sweet Main Street and into the lovely cafe atmosphere. There is sometimes a line, but it is certainly worth the wait. You can bring whole pies back with you, or try more than one with a slice at a time. Some of the standout flavors include Apple Boysenberry Flakey, Bumbleberry Crumb (a combination of blackberries, blueberries, and boysenberries), and Chocolate Pecan. There are also some great lunch options here, so take something for the road back!
There’s nothing better than a road dedicated entirely to the best pies in southern California! Driving through Southern California is always beautiful, but it’s even more so when you’ve got an extra sweet destination in front of you. Have you gotten to go to these bakeries? Which one stood out the most?
