I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
We say it about all kinds of things, from literal gifts to businesses and even (teasingly) people… good things come in small packages. It is a cliche, but it is also true. Being big and flashy doesn’t guarantee something is great, and being small and unassuming certainly doesn’t mean it isn’t. This tiny restaurant in Camarillo, CA, is anything but small when it comes to deliciousness and community support.
Braxton’s Kitchen occupies a small space but holds a big place in the community’s heart. Believe me when I say that it is the food, not the size of the place, that means a little bit of a wait, especially on weekends.
The interior is super cute and has a great counter where you can grab a coffee or canned beverage, place an order to go, or pick up some adorable pup-themed merchandise.
From pancakes and waffles (which are amazing, I have to say) to salads and sandwiches, you will find a lot of familiar favorites on the menu, but always with a bit of a fun twist.
There is also a great kids’ menu, a few seasonal sweets, and a fairly extensive beverage menu that includes fresh juice and lemonade, locally-brewed coffee, and mimosas.
Occasionally, Braxton’s will bring back past specials that proved especially popular, like these ridiculously delicious Lemon Poppyseed Pancakes which I was able to catch on the restaurant’s last anniversary! Returning specials are a great reason to follow Braxton’s on Facebook.
This pup-friendly restaurant knows that dogs are people too, which is why there is a Dog Menu with the Braxton and Friend’s Special in two portion sizes. Your furry best friend’s healthy brunch includes ground beef, brown rice, butternut squash, peas, carrots, and kidney beans.
Braxton’s actually does more than prepare food for dogs; a portion of the restaurant’s monthly sales actually go to local rescues and non-profit organizations.
Is there anything cuter than these brunch toys for your fur baby? Yes, that is, in fact, a plush Bloody Mary and some chicken and waffles! You can only get the toys in-store and new ones come out from time to time, so keep an eye out.
In addition to partnerships with canine-focused entities, Braxton’s has hosted markets to encourage support of other small businesses, and has partnered with Ventura County Rescue Mission, using their VIP Meal Membership Program subscriptions to donate meals to the homeless through the Mission.
This local restaurant may be small, but there is nothing small about the flavor, friendliness, and community support it provides. Have you ever been to this tiny eatery in Camarillo, CA?
