It’s not quite summertime here in SoCal, which means it’s the perfect time of year to head out on a majestic desert hike before the temperatures start to heat up. When you need a break from the city and you’re seeking a new landscape to explore, this stunning trail in Southern California will completely refresh you.
Please note, this trail is occasionally closed due to overcrowding and parking difficulties. As of March 2021, it is closed for one year on a temporary order.
Over in San Bernardino County, you can hike the Mojave River along a splendid trail that will lead you through a variety of scenery in the SoCal desert.
Just shy of 6.5 miles, this out and back trail will give you a wonderful excuse to spend some time in the great outdoors. If that is a longer hike than you're up for, just turn back at any point and customize the hike to your liking.
Although it can get pretty hot out here depending on the time of year you visit, you'll find plenty of shade along the way where you can get a nice break from the sun.
No matter what time of year you head out on this trail, you'll want to bring along plenty of water and wear clothing that protects you from the sun. It is the desert after all.
Along the trail, about 2.5 miles in, you'll reach Deep Creek, a natural hot spring surrounded by the most beautiful rocks and landscape. Grab a spot on the rocks and relax your feet before you carry on to the rest of the hike.
Continue along the trail and you'll encounter many scenic suprises. One of our favorites is this delightful foot bridge that seems to come out of nowhere.
In order to hike this trail you will need an Adventure Pass that's displayed in the window. You can purchase a pass on your way to the trail at any of the local markets. There is a hefty fine involved for not displaying the pass, so make sure not to overlook this step.
