On a hot day, there’s nothing better than taking a dip in an ice-cold pool of water. One of the most well-known swimming holes in the Los Angeles area is known as Switzer Falls. This waterfall-fed pool makes for a perfect day out in the great outdoors.
Switzer Falls can be accessed via the Gabrielino Trail, which is a 3.6-mile easy hike, out and back. This hike takes you through the San Gabriel Mountains in the Angeles National Forest.
The trail is clearly marked and there’s a sign pointing to the falls when you arrive. You can bring your furry friends for the day because this hike is dog friendly, too.
Go ahead and take a dip in the water! Rocks line the sides of the swimming hole, so you can find a place to sit and eat lunch or take a breather from the day's adventure.
The 14-foot waterfall feeds the natural swimming hole. You’ll often find people jumping off into the water below. Would you be brave enough to do this?
Pack your swimsuit, snacks, and plenty of water because this is the ideal spot to spend a day hiking around and swimming. In the spring and summertime, the trail is accented by fragrant wildflowers and blackberries to pick along the way.
Switzer Falls remains a favorite spot for locals to hike and swim for a day. It’s best to visit in spring or summer, as the waterfall can slow down to a trickle in the fall. Would you go swimming in this ice-cold water? Find out about more natural swimming holes in Southern California here.
