1. They refer to California as "Cali."
We call it Southern California or SoCal, but you'll never hear a local call it Cali. Unless they're an imposter, of course.
2. They are very polite drivers. Especially in traffic.
When it comes to driving in SoCal, polite definitely will not get you to your location on time.
3. Going to the beach is a big event.
With beautiful beaches at our fingertips every day of the year, heading to the sea and sand for the afternoon is just another day in SoCal and nothing out of the ordinary.
4. They can't tell the difference between a yoga mat and a welcome mat.
Yoga is a big deal in SoCal. Whether it's yoga in a studio, yoga in the park, or even yoga on a farm, the yoga culture in SoCal is truly everywhere.
5. They think everyone in Southern California has a swimming pool in their backyard.
News flash: we don't.
6. They have sticker shock when it comes to the cost of housing.
Even a basic house in Southern California is enough to make any out-of-towner gasp for breath. Yes, it's expensive. But, for all of us locals, we're more than happy to pay the sunshine tax.
7. Seeing the Hollywood sign is on their bucket list.
They secretly add bonus points for spotting a celebrity while taking a photo of the sign.
8. Speaking of celebrities...
They live for a celebrity sighting. Especially if that celebrity happens to have a gigantic mansion that can be viewed from a Hollywood tour bus.
9. They have an entire closet full of winter clothes — hats, scarves, and gloves — that they haven't been able to wear yet.
10. They are disappointed when it rains.
Whereas those of us who live here rejoice on a rainy day as we still remember last year's nasty drought and all of us would sure like to avoid that again.
