While we all love watching movies and staying home in our pjs, sometimes it feels good to get out of the house and rejuvenate in nature. If you’re looking for some ideas for getting outside, we have created a list for you to spark your imagination and give you some starting points for planning a local, outdoor adventure (even if it’s just your own backyard!).
1. Take a nature walk or hike close to home to get some much-needed fresh air and time in the beautiful outdoors.
With a little bit of research online, you can find out which local parks and trails near you are open.
Bonelli Park Trail in San Dimas, CA is just one example of a great place to safely social distance outside. The trail has a 6.4-mile loop along the lake and is kid-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can bring the family and your furry friends along for a fun afternoon.
2. Visit the beach and walk along the sandy shores or spend time reading in the sun.
If you live near the coast, it might be worth it to take a trip to the beach to be near the calming waves of the ocean. Check before going to confirm the beach is open and read up on the restrictions. If you can’t get outdoors, even just looking at pictures of the ocean can bring a sense of peace and calm.
3. Head off on a bike riding adventure on a trail or in your own neighborhood.
Taking a spin on your bike is a great way to break away from the screens for a few hours and breath in some fresh air. The
Lake Hollywood Trail has a 3.3-mile loop that’s accessible to the whole family. If you don’t own a bike, you might want to check out local bike rentals in your area and see what options they have available.
4. Pack a picnic with all of your favorite foods and head to a park or find an outdoor spot close to home.
Who doesn’t love a good picnic! When you can’t dine indoors, heading into nature might be the next best thing. With nice weather and a warm breeze, there’s no better place to set up your outdoor dining than a local park or beach.
Laguna Beach makes a perfect place for a socially distant picnic.
5. Order takeout from your favorite restaurant and find a nice place to eat outside.
Similar to the picnic idea, this allows you to support your local businesses and save some time instead of packing your own picnic. You still get all of the benefits of getting out of the house, with the added convenience of grabbing food to go. This works well too if you want to just grab a coffee and peruse around your neighborhood. If you’re in the LA area, check out this
handy guide on restaurants doing delivery and takeout.
6. Hop in the car to go on a scenic drive through the countryside to enjoy all of the views.
There’s nothing more relaxing than rolling down the windows and listening to your favorite music while you cruise through backroads. It’s a great way to explore farmlands and mountains, all from the comfort of your car. We’ve compiled a list of some great
backroads to explore that you can check out for ideas.
