Splash parks remind us of the good old days when we frolicked under a garden hose in our backyards. From the ground nozzles that spray refreshing water to the sound of children’s laughter in the air, everything about splash parks feels awfully familiar. You can see for yourself when you visit the Waterfront Park in San Diego.
Located in North Embarcadero in lively downtown San Diego, Waterfront Park is a massive open space with a historic building at its center. An interactive splash fountain, expansive civic green, and interactive playground define the rest of the park.
Waterfront Park's most exciting showpiece is the 830-foot-long foundation which runs nearly the full length of the park. It features an inch-deep basin for kids to splash safely and ground nozzles that shoot water 14 feet into the air. The park is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
If you choose not to go into the water, you can relax in the green grass located almost everywhere in the park. The grassy areas create a nice backdrop for family picnics and romantic dates. Waterfront Park is smoke-free and alcohol-free unless you have a permit for the latter.
For parking, pay lots and street parking are available nearby. Plan your visit around the jet hours so you don't miss the excitement. The north and south fountain jet operates from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Mondays; 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays.
Waterfront Park is more than a splash park. It offers intimate garden rooms with distinct designs, several picnic areas, and an interactive children's play zone. Due to its open structure, festivals, family recreation, and other events run on the property from time to time.
On your visit, don't miss the beautiful reflecting pool. Kids love it! It's open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Mondays, and 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays. Visit the park’s website for up-to-date information and future updates.
