I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
Some of the best experiences come when, in your travels, you just stumble upon a new place that only locals know about. Of course, this leaves a lot of places you might never run across. Fortunately, we are about to share one place with you so you don’t miss out on it. Locals and passers-through love the large portions and home-style country cooking at this rustic restaurant in Southern California.
Rainbow Oaks Restaurant is a rustic lodge-style eatery located near Interstate 15 in the community of Rainbow, in the northern part of San Diego County. The restaurant aims to provide fine dining that is affordable in a place where families and travelers can gather, eat, and rest.
If you are in the mood for a big, juicy steak, this is definitely the place. Choose from multiple rib eye options, New York strip, prime flat iron, or filet mignon, all cooked to your exact preferred doneness and with your choice of freshly-prepared sides.
Not quite what you are looking for? Try the tender BBQ tri tip, homemade meat loaf, bone-in pork chop, pan-seared salmon, or jumbo shrimp. Make sure you check out the daily specials, such as corned beef and cabbage, fried chicken, and beef stroganoff.
Breakfast at Rainbow Oaks is every bit as highly rated as lunch and dinner.
Locals cannot say enough about the huge portions and amazing taste of breakfast options like French toast, country biscuits and gravy, Monte Cristo super decker, steak and eggs, and chicken fried steak. Those are just a few of the delicious ways to fill up in the morning.
One of the many mouthwatering sandwiches and burgers on the menu is the Texas Burger, served on Texas toast with three cheeses, bacon, avocado, jalapeños, chipotle mayo, pickles, and an onion ring. You won’t find a burger this flavorful just anywhere and customers rave about it. Pair it with onion rings, French fries, coleslaw, or a fruit bowl.
Although it is unlikely you will have room for it after your meal, Rainbow Oaks has a tempting daily selection of desserts. Perhaps a doggy bag is in order!
The restaurant is also a sports bar serving a wide selection of beer and wine. With 20-foot peaked ceilings, natural wood walls and bar, and tree-stump bar stools, this is anything but an average lounge.
This lodge-style restaurant has a strong biker following, and it is a perfect rest stop on a long ride. The tall neon sign can be seen from Interstate 15, a major state highway, so travelers frequently turn in for a hot, home-style meal and a break from the road.
