When visitors come to Southern California they often have one thing on their mind when they get here: Disneyland. But SoCal is so much more than an amusement park. Here are some other memorable spaces and places you’ll want to take your friends and family when they come to visit you in Southern California.
1. Huntington Gardens in San Marino
One of the most beautiful spots in Southern California is Huntington Gardens. This stunning oasis is a treat for an afternoon stroll through some of the most spectacular gardens anyone will ever see.
2. Coronado Ferry
There's no question that Coronado is a memorable spot to visit. But what people often overlook is the thrill of taking a ferry ride across the bay. Rather than hopping in the car and heading to Coronado, wow your guests and opt for a ferry ride instead.
3. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
If you really want to show off SoCal's desert side, nothing compares to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. A hike through the slot canyons will make for an inspiring afternoon of exploring.
4. A Hike in the Forest
Your visitors might be begging for a trip to the beach, but our forests in SoCal are just as worthy of attention. To really knock their socks off take them on a hike through the San Bernardino National Forest. Pictured here: the view from one of the trails at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area.
5. Joshua Tree
There's nothing more awe-inspiring than seeing the beauty of Joshua Tree. Whether you are hiking, camping, or just day tripping, make sure to add Joshua Tree to your list of destinations for your guests to see.
6. Take a Day Trip to the Town of Julian
Take your guests to Julian for a day trip and give them a taste of gold country. Julian is known for its charming storefronts, fresh mountain air, and apple pie. For a real down-home restaurant experience I always take my friends to Julian Cafe.
7. La Jolla
Taking out-of-town guests to La Jolla is probably a no-brainer. But one spot that you may have overlooked that is definitely worthy of a visit is the sea cave that you can tour on foot. Access to Sunny Jim Cave is located inside The Cave Store at 1325 Coast Boulevard in La Jolla. You will definitely get oohs and ahs for this suggestion as you descend down a steep set of stairs into this breathtaking sea cave with a view of a lifetime.
8. Olde Towne Orange
A day trip to the historic town of Orange is a fun way to show off SoCal's charming small town appeal. Make sure to savor a stroll through the historic district and stop for a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants along the way. One of my favorite breakfast spots is The Filling Station. Not only is the food amazing, but it's housed in an old gas station which adds to its charm.
So where will you take your guests first? I think it might be fun to add all of them to your activity list. You also might like these scenic drives in SoCal — they’re sure to impress any out-of-towner!
