Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
The beautiful state of California isn’t exactly known for peace and quiet; usually, when one thinks of California (especially SoCal), they think of sandy beaches, artsy cities, and traffic galore. However, there are some small towns throughout Southern California that are actually perfect for that R&R some of us so totally crave.
Oak Glen, California, is a small farming community in the San Bernardino foothills.
The town's elevation measures up at 4,734 feet above sea level, which is much higher up there than the vast majority of SoCal cities.
There's just one road in and one road out; it winds from the I-10 near Yucaipa and through nearby valleys up to an idyllic landscape unlike most places in Southern California.
The stretch of byway that Oak Glen is on is mostly scenic land. Though the road stretches for 20 miles, just five of those miles are what makes up Oak Glen.

The higher elevation brings with it great rewards: The denizens of Oak Glen enjoy all four seasons throughout the year.
It's so unlike the rest of Southern California. It has the mountain beauty of Colorado combined with the breathtaking wine country of Northern California, and we can't think of a more peaceful place in SoCal to relax and unwind.
There's something about this place that feels like everybody's hometown.
If you’re hoping to spend the night (or the weekend!), Oak Glen has a website with accommodation information available here. Take your pick from farm stays, bed and breakfasts, campsites, and luxurious retreats. When it comes to peace and quiet, this little township is an absolute can’t-miss. It’s got all the small-town charm of any tranquil mountain town, but it’s right in our backyard in Southern California.
