I was born and raised in sunny Southern California and will never tire of the West Coast, although I spent several years living in Southeast Asia, about as far from California as you can get. Wherever I am in the world, I love straying from the beaten path, experiencing local life, and discovering hidden gems - camera in hand. The beach is my happy place and when I am not there (or writing), you will usually find me baking, watching movies, and cuddling my pugs. I have traveled around the country and around the world, and it never, ever gets old. Being able to combine my passion for travel and my love of writing is nothing short of a dream.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
We live in such a tech-ruled world, always looking at screens – from working on our laptops to scrolling through social media to watching television. Once in a while, it is good to just take a break, breathe some fresh air, enjoy real conversations, and reconnect with nature. If that sounds as good to you as it does to me, you should definitely check out this off-grid farm stay in Ojai, CA.
This “Old West” ranch was originally founded in 1875 and is a private, sustainable, off-grid escape that is close to the town of Ojai but miles from any neighbors.
It may be off-grid, but the ranch has plenty of modern amenities to make for a wonderful stay including a common grand room with a pool table, large screen TV, a piano, and a library. There is a basketball court and baseball field, and guests can even arrange for yoga classes and spa treatments.
The Howard Creek luxury tent sits right next to - you guessed it - Howard Creek, which flows year-round. A screened porch, barbecue pit, and picnic table provide plenty of ways to enjoy your gorgeous surroundings.
This is one of two such yurts on the farm’s property, in addition to a 2-bedroom cabin.

Enjoy modern comfort in the forest with a king-sized bed and up to three guest cots, lithium-battery-operated lighting, and propane heaters to stay warm and cozy in the winter. Private, locked bathrooms with hot water and showers are located close to the tent.
The communal commercial kitchen sits right on the lakeshore and is fully equipped to show off your skills and cook a delicious meal. Collect eggs from the chicken coop, pick seasonal veggies from the greenhouse, and fish for bluegill and catfish.
Guests can arrange for horseback riding lessons or guided trail rides - a perfect way to explore the area. Of course, you can set off on a fun forest trail hike or a gentle nature stroll as well.
Get out on the water for a fun and relaxing adventure by canoe, paddleboat, or kayak. The beautiful spring-fed lake is also perfect for swimming with a pretty mountain backdrop.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to go off-grid and enjoy a stay on this gorgeous ranch? Find everything you need to know including availability by visiting Ojai’s Howard Creek on Airbnb.
